New Work 2022
Think for yourself, Act for others
My recent work seeks to communicate, inspire, and be thought provoking. It is reflective of a quest to find purpose, meaning and joy in life.
The function of my art practice over fifty years, has been to chart life’s journey – emotional, sensory and intellectual. These paintings incorporate a range of visual metaphor, reflecting sensory experience, questioning and enquiry. An attitude of ‘I’m still learning’ sums this up. Relating to this, I am investigating and exploring humanism as a rational philosophy, informed by science, inspired by art, and motivated by compassion. In this regard, I would like to dedicate my new work to all those who think for themselves and act for others, summed up by: ‘We have more in common than that which divides us’. To try to live by the values of kindness, community and respect for others. On a formal level, the work explores: associative abstraction, variations in the use of geometry, symmetry and colour harmony, and use of expressive brushwork. One hopes that they will evoke some stirrings within the mind of the beholder, linked to the theme, and individual titles, which are chosen to be subtly communicative.
